Tonto seems to be yet another colorful and funny-looking figure that Depp can add to his collection of over-the-top extravagant characters.

PACIFIC RIM

Synopsis:

'White House Down'

Berita terkini – Amerika Syarikat diserang! Sebuah letupan yang dipercayai perbuatan pengganas berlaku di Rumah Putih (White House), Washington D.C dengan ramai kakitangan, termasuk Presiden James Sawyer dipercayai terperangkap di dalam kediaman berkenaan.

Kita juga menerima laporan bahawa beberapa tempat di sekitar Amerika Syarikat telah mengalami serangan pada masa sama. Siapakah yang bertanggungjawab dan apakah motif mereka masih belum dikenal pasti.

Cukup dramatik dan mendebarkan - itulah hasil karya filem dari pengarah Roland Emmerich. Meskipun tema aksi bukan asing kepadanya, ‘White House Down’ adalah satu lagi cabaran unik bagi Emmerich.

Setelah ‘meletupkan’ Rumah Putih menerusi ‘Independence Day' (1996) dan menghempaskan pengangkut pesawat USS John F. Kennedy dalam filem '2012' (2009), Emmerich berdepan dengan satu dilema - bolehkah dia menjadikan Rumah Putih sebagai sasaran sekali lagi?

Melihat kepada watak yang diketengahkan serta jalan cerita yang berbeza dan menggabungkan elemen aksi dengan genre 'political thriller', Emmerich memutuskan untuk menghidupkan skrip yang ditulis James Vanderbilt.
Berbeza daripada karyanya yang lepas, kali ini Rumah Putih menjadi fokus utama filem 'White House Down'. Pengambilalihan White House membawa kepada krisis global dengan kesannya tidak dapat dibayangkan.
Bagi memastikan Rumah Putih yang ditampilkan di layar perak cukup realistik, Emmerich dan kumpulan produksinya telah mendapatkan khidmat nasihat daripada McLarty Associates melalui bahagian filem dan hiburannya iaitu McLarty Media.
Meskipun kisah 'White House Down' hanyalah satu rekaan, ia berlatarbelakangkan dunia yang nyata, yang mempunyai budaya dan peraturan yang jelas.

Enggan mengecewakan anak perempuannya yang meletak Sawyer sebagai idolanya, Cale membawanya menyertai lawatan ke Rumah Putih.
Malangnya pada hari itu, Rumah PUtih diserang sekumpulan lelaki bersenjata. Kini, terpulang pada Cale untuk menyelamatkan anaknya, presiden dan tanah airnya.

Star Trek Into Darkness

LAYAR PERAK pada minggu ini menampilkan sebuah filem francais Star Trek Into Darkness lakonan mantap Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto dan Benedict Cumberbatch.

Misi kali ini menyaksikan seorang anak kapal muda, James T. Kirk perlu menghalang kejahatan yang dilakukan oleh John Harrison.

Demi menyempurnakan misi tersebut, Kirk harus bergabung dengan Spock untuk menumpaskan kejahatan yang bermaharajalela.

Dalam pada itu, karisma pelakon kacak Leonardo DiCaprio teruji sekali lagi menerusi sebuah filem berlatarbelakangkan tahun 1920-an berjudul The Great Gatsby.

Filem arahan Baz Luhrmann itu menceritakan perjalanan Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) yang mencari kekayaan di kota New York. Bagaimanapun, takdir telah mengubah landskap hidupnya.

Penonton yang dahagakan filem aksi hasil lakonan lincah Jason Statham boleh memilih filem Hummingbird yang turut menjenguk pawagam pada minggu ini.

Selain itu, sebuah filem komedi tempatan berjudul Oh Mak Kau! barangkali menjadi santapan terbaik sempena sambutan Hari Ibu.

Dalam misi itu, Krik telah bertengkar dengan pegawai kanannya, Spock (Zachary Quinto) kerana tiada sefahaman, namun mereka tetap bekerjasama menentang John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Kirk hampir dilucutkan jawatan, namun tragedi berdarah menyatukannya kembali bersama Spock.

Need for Speed

With a new Fast and the Furious movie on the horizon, everyone’s all geared up for a good old street racing movie. But awful puns aside, can the planet ever really have enough movies featuring fast cars, women and explosions? Probably not, no.

At least, that’s what the folks behind the upcoming Need for Speed movie will be hoping. Announced last year, the title has finally begun filming with an expected release date of March next year, something which is far off, but we have our hopes high that the movie will actually bear some fruit.

According to local news reports, filming began in a Macon, Georgia car wash which isn’t exactly the most glamorous of locale if you’re asking us. We’d have expected such a movie to be filmed in somewhere like Los Angeles or perhaps Chicago, but we’re not known for our film making prowess, so we’ll bow to the superior knowledge at hand. We’re sure they had their reasons for choosing such a location to shoot the movie!

News reports also say that plenty of local streets are to be closed over the coming weeks, so at least we can rest easy that they won’t be spending too much longer in that car wash!

As far as plot goes, we’re told that the usual street racing fare is in full force. Expect a story revolving around an ex-con being released from prison and then embarking on a cross-country race. Unfortunately, an ex partner isn’t too happy and places a bounty on our no doubt lovable rogue’s head. Cue much fast driving and screeching of tires. All the good stuff we love in one place!

Cast-wise, Michael Keaton is undoubtedly the biggest name in attendance, with the former Batman star adding some much needed flare to proceedings. Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul will also feature, as well as recording artist Kid Cudi, apparently. He’s this film’s Ludacris, then…

We’re not going to lie, we’re not overly excited to see what they do with this Need for Speed movie, but suspect it’ll do fairly well regardless.

Come on! We all love some Need for Speed action on our consoles and gaming devices, why not be happy with a movie?!

Iron Man 3: What we know so far

Just when superhero movies faced the danger of feeling too formulaic and conventional, along comes "Iron Man 3" to give the genre a much-needed kick in the spandex.

Despite raising the bar over the years with the likes of "X2: X-Men United," "Spider-Man 2," "The Dark Knight" and the first "Iron Man," more recent offerings from the first phase of the new Marvel Studios regime - which consisted of "The Incredible Hulk," "Captain America," "Thor" and especially "Iron Man 2" - felt like more of the same. Yes, even the mighty "Avengers" appeared to be going through the motions, despite being the third-highest grossing movie of all time with $1.5 billion worldwide.

But "Iron Man 3" celebrates the character's 50th anniversary and kicks off Marvel's highly-touted second phase in the best possible way by stripping Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) of his iron-clad alter-ego and exposing his vulnerabilities. Like Bruce Wayne in last year's "The Dark Knight Rises," Stark not only spends most of his time out of costume, but the state-of-the-art Iron Man prototype suit that he does wear is an unreliable rust-bucket that's far from being invincible.

As directed and co-written by "Lethal Weapon" screenwriter Shane Black - who also directed Downey in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" - "Iron Man 3" is one of the most character-driven comic book-based movies to hit the big screen since "Spider-Man 2." That gives Downey ample time to embrace the razor-sharp dialogue and command the screen with the type of charm, swagger and confidence that turned the first "Iron Man" into the rock star of superhero movies.

But now that his star has since faded, Black and co-writer Drew Pearce don't just bring Tony Stark back down to earth; they practically deconstruct the entire superhero model by defying everyone's expectations, making "Iron Man 3" the most daring and rewarding installment yet. So while it may not be as action-packed as its predecessors, it pays off in other ways, thanks to some surprise plot twists, dynamic performances, lots of humor and a finale that will knock your socks off.

After nearly losing his life while fighting alongside The Avengers to save the world from an alien invasion, Tony Stark finds himself prone to anxiety attacks and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. His longtime confidant (and lover) Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is now running Stark Industries, leaving him plenty of time to toil away in his lab.

But his past comes back to haunt him when an embittered scientist named Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) teams up with a menacing terrorist called the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) to bring the United States to its knees. With Tony Stark already facing an existential crisis that shakes his confidence to the core, could this be the end of Iron Man?

To say anything more about the plot would spoil the many surprises, but after teaming up with the world's greatest superheroes to save the planet, shouldn't Tony Stark have, say, Captain America, Hawkeye or Nick Fury on his speed-dial, just in case he needs them (like he does here)?

It's also worth mentioning that a terrorist attack on a famous Hollywood landmark hits a little close to home after the recent bombings in Boston.

Otherwise, "Iron Man 3" tones down the spectacle, and the movie is all the better for it. Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Don Cheadle (as the Iron Patriot) are all in top form here, and where 2010's disappointing "Iron Man 2" featured pointless action scenes that did little to advance the plot, the exciting money shots featured here are bound to impress even the most jaded of moviegoers.

Just like the first "Iron Man" raised the bar for superhero movies, "Iron Man 3" raises the bar even further by taking chances, being more ambitious, bringing the character full-circle and forcing him to re-evaluate his priorities. So it's more than just a kick in the spandex: it's the best of the bunch, but as for whether or not this is truly the end of Iron Man, you'll just have to stick around after the closing credits to find out for sure.
